Not enough to protect coccyx
Bought this on account of the reviews and price. I ordered an X-Small, it fitted well and was comfortable. Alas, on Day 2 of my 5 day ski trip I fell right on my coccyx near a chair lift - on compacted snow - and unfortunately this pair of shorts did not fully cushion my fall. My coccyx was badly bruised and I couldn't really enjoy the skiing for the rest of the holiday. It worked well enough when I fell sideways so it could well be that the grooves in the back cushioning, while allowing movement, compromised the protection. I do regret not getting a better pair - it would have saved paying for 3 physiotherapy sessions and 2 weeks of pain.

Very sturdy
Haven't used these yet for the snowboarding holiday I have bought them for but the sizing is great and hopefully they will help prevent too many bruises. The padding is substantial so need to consider how much space you have under your boarding trousers, but for the price well worth the investment!
